There was success all-round for the HANNspree-supported teams at the tenth round of the World Supersport Championship at Donington Park, UK. The victory went to HANNspree Stiggy Motorsport’s Joshua Brookes, while HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team-mates Andrew Pitt and Jonathan Rea took second and third places on the podium respectively.
Rea had been determined to score a positive result at Donington Park – a circuit he knows well from his time in the British Supersport Championship, where the track is a regular on the calendar.
The 21-year-old Ulsterman got a good start from the line, grabbing the holeshot from his second place qualifying position. However, he was being closely pursued by fellow HANNspree-supported rider Joshua Brookes, who had also enjoyed a positive start, and had slotted into second position from fourth on the grid.
Meanwhile, HANNspree Ten Kate Honda’s Andrew Pitt looked like he had his work cut out, after starting from 15th position. However, by the first corner, the young Australian had moved into seventh place and by lap five, he had passed team-mate Rea and was in the lead.
With 15 laps to go in the 22-lap race, the Supersport event became a race of four riders, with Pitt, Rea, Brookes and Barry Veneman battling for the all important victory. However, it was Brookes who scored the top spot on the podium after passing Veneman, Rea and then Pitt on the penultimate lap. It was Brookes’ second World Supersport victory of the season.
